Trading Insights and Adventures: A Conversation with Ray and JJ
Hello everyone, it's your host Ray, also known as All Day Ray, the Superman Lover. In this blog post, I'm excited to share with you the highlights of a recent podcast episode where I had an engaging conversation with a former market maker and current day retail trader, JJ. We delved into our experiences in trading, current market conditions, and even touched on our personal lives.
Trading and Travels: A Blend of Experiences
JJ, who has been a market maker for 20 years, shared his experiences traveling in Europe over the summer. He expressed his love for Europe, mentioning his visits to the south of France and Turkey. He highlighted the affordability of travel within Europe and the opportunity to see different parts of the world. I must admit, I was a bit jealous of his travels, but I plan to visit him soon.
Summer Trading Season and the Short Squeeze
Our conversation transitioned to discussing the summer trading season and the recent short squeeze in the market. JJ mentioned the momentum trading opportunities and the potential for a good fall season for small-cap stocks. He also talked about the high volume in penny stocks and the potential profits that can be made. I agreed and emphasized the challenges of trading penny stocks and the importance of discipline and sticking to one's trading process. We both acknowledged that trading can be tough, especially in the current market conditions, but we remain committed to staying in tune with the market and adapting to changing environments.
Trading Strategies and the Importance of a Structured Process
JJ shared his recent trading strategies, focusing on certain stocks like the Hawaiian stock. He also talked about the concept of trading multiple stocks and how it can be beneficial to have a variety of options to choose from. We both agreed on the importance of having a structured trading process and not taking trades just to see if they work.
JJ's Trading Course
JJ briefly talked about his trading course and the positive feedback he has received from participants. He explained that the course is structured over ten weeks and includes instruction, recaps, and trading sessions where he trades alongside the participants. JJ emphasized the importance of having a process and managing risk in trading. He also mentioned that the course is interactive and he is available to help participants understand the material. His goal is to teach traders how to be consistent and profitable in the market.
The Concept of a Reverse Split and the Importance of Education
JJ explained the concept of a reverse split in the stock market and how it can be used by management to maintain a certain stock price level. He criticized companies that engage in stock-based compensation programs and lavish spending by executives, while neglecting the interests of shareholders. He warned retail investors to be cautious of management blaming short sellers for stock price declines, when dilution is often the real issue. We both emphasized the need for retail investors to educate themselves on how to analyze and evaluate public companies to avoid being taken advantage of.
The Importance of a Support System and Community
We discussed the challenges of trading and the importance of having a support system and community to learn from and bounce ideas off of. We expressed our satisfaction in seeing traders in our community grow and develop their skills.
Wrapping Up
Before wrapping up the episode, JJ made a humorous comment about retail traders being "cheap bastards" and how it affects market makers. I found it funny and agreed with JJ's statement. We concluded the episode by wishing everyone a happy Labor Day, reminding them to stay safe and enjoy the last weekend of summer. We also encouraged listeners to reach out to us on Twitter if they have any questions or need help.
